The demon of climbing Adam Ondra has just been at the opening of his new “Climbing Playground”. The new state of the art bouldering centre was opened in his hometown of Brno, Czech Republic. The centre boasts 1,200 square metres of bouldering including everything from beginner’s areas to steep overhangs and cave.
Ondra kicked off the opening over the last couple of days with a a Legend’s-style tournament which he (pretty unfairly) joined in, with a live stream that can be rewatched below. As well as the huge bouldering space and that new plastic smell, the center boasts a café, and a shop with a huge range of try-before-you-buy La Sportiva rock shoes.
You can visit now if you live near, and who knows if you might bump into the legend himself. This does seem like a bit of an upgrade from the wall (literally just a wall) outside his house at age 7 from the 2:20 mark on this video.
Ondra seems to have just returned from the giant American tour he has just completed, where he nearly onsighted the Salathe wall and flashed Midnight lightning in Yosemite, then went to tick Belly Full of Bad Berries 5.13b, the huge overhanging off width in Indian Creek, and Just Do It 5.14c in Smith Rock.
