Max Bertone is a young prodigy and part of a family of hard climbers. The route “Chykungunya” was an 8c+ variation along the right of another route “Pari” at their local “Ouaki” crag.
The biggest name in Speed Climbing is Iranian Reza Alipour Shenazandifard – or Reza Alipour. Known variously as the “Asiatic Cheetah”, “Iranian Spiderman”, the “Usain Bolt of Speed Climbing”, and the self-titled “Fastest Vertical Man in the World”. Reza has been the Men’s Speed Climbing World Record holder for two years now and even has a move named after him.

Emma Twyford has just sent her long term project “The Big Bang” 9a in Lower Pen Trwyn, Wales. She becomes the first British woman to climb a 9a. The route was originally found by Neil Carson and was the first 9a route in the UK.
